Jackson County Parks and Recreation is hosting a pair of volleyball leagues open to anyone over the age of 16, one a competitive co-rec league and the other an open volleyball league. 

The Haywood Community College Foundation is hosting the inaugural charity disc golf tournament, Discs in the Dogwoods, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, on the campus of Haywood Community College. 

The Future Mustang Soccer Camp, sponsored by Jackson County Parks and Recreation, will welcome local kids to build their skills on the pitch. 

Due to forecasted inclement weather conditions, the WayneTown ThrowDown Skate Park Competition was postponed. The makeup day is set for Saturday, June 8, at the Waynesville Skate Park.  

To hear local skateboarding impresario Jared Lee tell it, there wasn’t much to do in Haywood County for young skaters growing up during the sport’s early boom in the 1980s. 

Youth Tennis Lessons at Mark Watson Park in Sylva will begin on May 4. 

Macon County Early College student athletes took to the public comment period during the March 25 school board meeting to speak out against the possibility of not being allowed to play Franklin High School sports, as has long been the norm. 

Registration is about to close for Jackson County youth volleyball league. 

Josh Brooks will return as head coach for Franklin High School football after players implored the school board to reinstate the recently resigned coach.

Registration is open for youth volleyball clinics slated to begin the week of March 11 at the Cullowhee Recreation Center in Cullowhee.
