To the Editor:

We all awakened Easter Sunday morning to receive the below message from the President of the United States, who proclaims he is a practicing person of faith: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F——— Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” 

Some people eat to live, and others live to eat. I fall into the latter camp, which is why I’ve been both confused and fascinated by the fasting trend that has flooded the health and wellness movement in the last few years. To temporarily deprive oneself of food in service of a larger goal — for some, weight loss; for others, metabolic health or mental clarity — is the kind of challenge that borders on unreasonable. To me, fasting ranks just below ice baths in terms of appeal.

A beloved Western North Carolina tradition, the “Easter Hat Parade” will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, in downtown Dillsboro. 

Jesus was an incredible teacher of divine love. Through his teachings we learn that we can all have a direct relationship with God giving us access to our divine human potential. During this Easter season as our old selves symbolically die, let us look at what it means to live a life of love in action. Let’s see how we can tune into the energy of compassion and extend it outward to those that cross our path. 

Easter Celebrations in WNC

Growing up, my family had a little blue and white camper at Ocean Lakes Campground in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. It was our go-to place for every vacation. My sister and I slept on bunk beds built into the side of a wall. We had no phone or TV, but we ate a lot of watermelon and played board games for hours. 

Easter Celebrations

Growing up, my family spent the week of Easter at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We had a little blue and white camper on Sharks Tooth Trail a few streets back from the ocean. Easter typically fell around our county’s spring break, so once that final school bell rang, we packed up our van and headed south.
