Question: My mother-in-law is elderly and doesn’t want to cook at all and only wants to microwave food for herself. What are some ways I can make sure she’s still eating healthy?

Answer: There are a number of frozen options at your local Ingles Markets that are relatively low in sodium. For a whole frozen meal, aim for about 600mg-800mg of sodium or less. Think about items that can be added to these frozen meals to increase nutrient amounts or just eaten alongside those meals. These could be fresh, frozen or canned foods like:

• bagged or frozen spinach or other vegetables

• microwaveable whole grains

• canned or pouch beans

• canned or pouch meat or seafood

Related Items

• fresh, frozen or canned fruit
