Haywood Community College (HCC) is hosting a free family-friendly Halloween event from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, on campus. This event, coordinated by HCC’s Environmental Leadership Club and other student clubs, will bring partners together to showcase how wildlife plays a crucial role in our local ecosystems and how we can better care for them by sustaining habitat components that they need.
The event will start with a special presentation in the Charles M. Beall Auditorium with a naturalist and animals from Balsam Mountain Trust. Animal ambassadors showcased by the preserve may include an owl, Virginia opossum, snakes, and other creepy critters.
This creepy event will also include additional activities:
- A guided semi-dark Boo-tanical Gardens tour in the campus’ Rhododendron garden will include fun Halloween decorations and informational booths from some HCC student clubs
- Kid’s activities including painting a craft to take home and a water quality competition
- Facepainting by members of the HCC Cosmetology Club
- Additional activities from community partners, including Haywood Waterways, Haywood Solid Waste & Recycling, NC Department of Environmental Quality, and Tuscola’s STEM Club
The food truck, Delish, will also be on campus during the event for guests to purchase dinner, drinks, or a small snack.
