Learn about Scouting America and the people starting a new Cub Scout Pack at a meet and greet 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Bethel Rural Community Organization at 664 Sonoma Roa, next to Bethel Middle School. Cub Scouts is for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. The existing pack meets at Long’s Chapel on Mondays and the new pack will meet on Thursdays.
“As a member of the Council, we are making a commitment to the youth of Haywood County to provide opportunities that will benefit each Scout and their community. Scouting is a great foundation to teach our youth to be responsible adults with leadership capabilities,” said Daniel Boone Council Executive Board Member Mike McLean.

The free second-annual Family Fun Fest will be open for the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Tanger Outlets in Asheville, in the side parking lot near Sportsman’s Warehouse.
Gateways and booths will teach a skill or show memorabilia to pique kids’ interest. Experience a variety of activities like a regatta, pinewood derby races, a booth to shoot BB guns, monkey ropes to climb, a pool to paddle a canoe and even a chance to make a rope or build a campfire.
