The ramp from U.S. 74 to Interstate 40 West in Haywood County will be closed for about two weeks while a contractor conducts a maintenance repair.

Traffic heading from Clyde to destinations west of the interchange should take the marked detour which directs traffic to I-40 East then Champion Drive (Exit 31) and back to I-40 West.

Local traffic may find alternate routes, based on trip origin, including U.S. 276 West and N.C. 209 North from Waynesville and points further west.

The contractor estimates a two-week closure to repair bridge pier caps which connect the bridge piers to the top superstructure. Operations on this ramp may conclude early with optimal weather conditions.

Transportation officials advise drivers to plan ahead, anticipate delays, remain alert, and obey all posted traffic signs.
