Shearl emerges from three-candidate Primary field
Shearl will now face a General Election opponent in November.

Incumbent John Shearl has won the Republican Primary Election and will proceed to the November election in his bid to represent District 1 in Macon County, which includes Highlands, on the county commission.
Shearl faced two opponents, Don Willis and Joey Wilson. Shearl came away with 38.27% of the vote, while Wilson amassed 31.14% and Willis had 30.60%.
With this win, Shearl, who will wrap up his first four-year term in office at the end of this year, will square off against Democrat Russ Lunn in the General Election.
