Understanding the chakras
We have several layers of energy that surround our physical body known as the auric field. This energy system holds our past, present and future.
The first three layers specifically relate to navigating the physical world by way of the lower three chakras. The etheric body is the closest energy layer to the physical body and is an exact replica of it. It corresponds to the root chakra and holds our life force energy. The next energy layer is the emotional layer which holds our feelings and corresponds to the sacral chakra. The third layer is the mental layer which contains our thoughts and corresponds to the solar plexus chakra. In her book “Healing Hands of Light,” Barbara Brennan discusses the energy layers in detail in case you are interested in learning more.
As we allow our thoughts to come and go each day, certain ones will resonate with our beliefs and get stuck in our mental layer. When we energize those thoughts with our emotions, they move closer to the physical body via the etheric layer of energy. The stronger we feel about an idea, and the longer we think it, the more power it has to move from the ethers to terra firma! This is why energy healers tout if you change your thoughts, you can change your life! How do we do that?
The Dead End
The first thing we all do when life is unpleasant is to blame the external world, which is always someone else. There is no power in this thoughtform as it requires us to convince them to change. We hold no power in creating or destroying in someone else’s life due to their free will. People only change when they choose to. This happens when their life becomes so unpleasant that they begin to question their choices. If they are gaining something from our exchange, then they will continue to participate in the same way. Trying to change another person will keep us trapped in this frequency giving us many more opportunities to live this energy

Step one: Ask the question “what bothers me the most in this situation?”
WARNING: This is often where most people start to criticize the other person and then they loop into the dead end.
By naming what we believe is the source and not stopping with someone else, we now have a place to look for the deeper energy at play. Remember the situation is not the root. The root exists in the mental energy field. To get there we must travel backwards through the etheric, then emotional; finally reaching the mental energy layer.
Step two: “How does this situation make me feel?” Again, we are working to identify the emotion that energized the thought that made it our belief!
Step Three: “How do I keep it about me?”
Let’s look at an example.
Mary has an argument with her boyfriend about the amount of time he spends with her. (not it…just the circumstance in which the energy is being demonstrated)
With step one she understands that she is angry that he will not spend more time with her. (If it’s all about him, then it is still not it. Keep going Mary, you are getting warmer!)
With step two she feels undesirable and rejected by him. (emotional layer, yay Mary, almost there!)
**This is not the core belief. We know this because this thought still centers around what she believes he thinks! This disempowers her and allows this energy to continue to wreak havoc in her life. (Be brave Mary! Keep this about you!)
In step three Mary must use her reaction to her boyfriend to figure out what he triggers in her and what she believes that says about her. She realizes that when she feels rejected, her belief says she is unlovable, and her response is to push people away. She asks herself (out loud) what makes her undesirable in the eyes of others? Her emotional body then syncs with her physical body, and she feels a twinge of pain around the words that ring true.
Next she must own her feelings. When she verbalizes “I believe myself to be undesirable when I look in the mirror and see the extra weight on my body” her mind then searches her memory bank where she holds that wound. She immediately is taken back to her childhood when her mother made an insensitive comment about her weight, and she felt rejected by her mother. As a child the only reasoning that made sense at the time was: when my body image displeases my mother, she does not love me.
**This experience has happened with her boyfriend because she is now ready to change this belief! As an adult she can now choose if she wants to tie her self-worth to her physical appearance to others.
Mind Body Spirit Connection
Mary will continue to draw situations that will allow her to practice associating her looks with her worth unless she has the courage to challenge that belief. Her spirit wants her to transform that belief that she has carried throughout her life because it disempowers her. From a soul perspective we are more than our physical body. If we relate to others strictly from our physicality then we limit our experience. To live a full and rich life, our soul wants us to experience our full energy which includes all aspects of who we are no matter what others might think.
Her Path Forward
Mary can change the internal message she tells herself when she connects with her inner beauty and allows it to occupy her dominant thoughts. As she asks what makes her feel beautiful and then feels the love she holds for herself, she shifts into projecting that image out to the world. People often cry when they make this breakthrough because in identifying their true feelings, they experience an emotional release.
The new energy becomes what people respond to when they are with her. As she accepts herself she projects acceptance into the world. She now attracts people who appreciate her authentic being. These are people who love her big heart and enjoy her perspective on life. The weight has served its purpose, and she no longer needs it as an excuse to judge herself. She is now able to align with practices that can bring her body back into balance. Mary has understood in a profound way that her worth is not negotiated with others. She found that she can be her true source of love and that she can freely express her beauty in all of its forms!
Moral of the story?
In a nutshell, be like Mary.
