Haywood County commissioners expressed concern this week over what they claim is poor work attendance of the county tax collector, Mike Matthews.

Though both of the Jackson County commissioners up for re-election will have competition when November rolls around, the primary season will be quiet with only one person from each party running for each seat. 

Two additional Republicans joined the race for Haywood County commissioner in the final days of the candidate sign-up period that ended Monday.

Five candidates are running for two commissioner seats in Macon County and there are still five days left to sign up for the race.

With the sign-up period for the 2016 election underway, two more candidates have tossed their hats in the ring to run for commissioner in Macon County.

The race for county commissioner in District 3 of Jackson County will no longer be an uncontested one following Ron Mau’s decision to file as a Republican candidate.

As candidate sign-ups get underway, Swain County commissioner incumbents plan to seek another term.

The race for Haywood County commissioner has begun to take shape with the candidate sign-up period now officially underway, with four Democrats and one Republican running for commissioner as of press time Tuesday afternoon. The deadline for candidates to register is Dec. 21.

In addition to wanting more curriculum classes offered for residents, Swain County commissioners want better representation on the Southwestern Community College Board of Trustees. 

With the six-month process of getting a nuisance noise ordinance passed behind them, members of the Macon County Planning Board now have some new assignments.
