Foundational unease: Fontana library board struggles amid increasingly tense atmosphere

The seeds of chaos sown into the fertile soil of the embattled Fontana Regional Library system over the last few years have sprouted.

The FRL Board of Trustees has struggled to function over the last year, but things have come to a head the last couple of weeks as trustees, local media and a former librarian all received anonymous emails riddled with misinformation and threats. All the while, the board is still without an attorney, and now, that lack of representation is holding up crucial decisions.

DEI’s intent is honorable

To the Editor:

An MD recently expressed opinion regarding Trump wanting DEI to die.

All his remarks are accurate and no one would disagree with them if in fact employers followed them. The doctor doesn’t seem to recognize that there are many racists in this country.

Trump wants DEI to DIE

To the Editor:

Since President Trump, by the will of the majority of Americans, has come into office he has given a multitude of executive orders striking down failed policies of the Biden administration. None are as infamous as the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) programs.

We must cure this sickness

To the Editor:

Western Carolina University is only one of many public institutions being infected with the disease of Trumpism. Single-handedly Trump has mandated that diversity can no longer be promoted in hiring, curriculum, and even in student populations.

WCU official describes secret ‘strategy’ to skirt DEI ban in undercover video

A senior administrator at Western Carolina University was secretly recorded describing how the school is continuing to promote diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives despite a systemwide ban enacted by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors last year.

It’s time to stand against hate

To the Editor:

I am a retired military officer (veteran); senior citizen; middle class; have grandchildren that are part of the LBGQ+ community; live in a rural area; have a grandchild still in school; and, I am a female.

Silenced: 307 words, phrases and acronyms Trump doesn’t want you to use

Whether you’re Black, Hispanic, Indigenous or White — LGBTQ+ or cisgender — if you’re thinking about promoting equity and inclusion in historically marginalized communities by combating institutionalized discrimination, racism and sexism, congratulations! You just committed thoughtcrime, because some words are more equal than others.

Apple bucks trend, affirms DEI support

To the Editor:

In this day when actual facts can be hard to assess/confirm, here is an interesting one that is public record and confirmable. It is also of note that DEI has been politically misused and not well understood.

Shame on U.S. corporations

To the Editor:

What hypocrites we are!  As we honor President Jimmy Carter for his worldwide humanitarian efforts, American corporations are busily rolling back Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
