The difference between a brown egg and a white egg is based on the type (breed) of chicken that lays the egg. There are several varieties of chickens that lay brown eggs, the Rhode Island Red is one. According to experts, looking at the skin around the ear of the chicken will tell you what color egg they will lay.  Leghorns have a white patch and they (and many other varieties) will lay white eggs. Other breeds of chickens will lay green, blue and even rose colored eggs.
