“White foods are bad and we shouldn't eat them!” — This saying comes from folks that seek to eliminate some highly processed carbohydrates made with white flour like pastas and white rice, but are all “white foods” really bad for us?

There are plenty of “white” foods that are good for us.

Here are just a few:

• Protein rich foods: chicken, turkey, fish, tofu

• Fruits and starchy vegetables that provide vitamins, minerals and fiber: bananas, potatoes, turnips, parsnips, jicama, white beans

• What else? Mushroom, garlic, onions, leeks

Don’t be so quick to discriminate about foods based on their color! Think about the nutrient benefits foods provide.
