Swain County Commission on Sept. 9 held a brief emergency session to swear in Finance Officer Kyra Doster, who had secured the $1 million bond the appointment required. At a Sept. 1 commission meeting, Doster was approved in a 5-0 vote as interim finance officer. She previously served as finance officer for the Town of Franklin and has worked at least 30 years for the local government.
Swain County, in its Resolution Appointing County Finance Officer, cited “ongoing financial obligations that must be timely processed and paid, including payroll, debt service, contractual obligations, vendor payments, and other lawful obligations,” as a testament to the urgent need to fill the position.
