Question: I have some difficulty with chewing and swallowing. What are some soft foods with protein that won’t cause me too many issues?

Answer: You can make many foods softer and easier to chew and swallow by using your blender or food processor to change the texture. This is done quite frequently with meat/chicken for serving in facilities where chewing or swallowing may be difficult.

Higher protein foods that are soft:

• Greek Yogurt

• Cottage cheese

• Scrambled eggs (most any kind of eggs)

• Soft/silken tofu (in a smoothie)

• Many canned/pouch meats/chicken/fish are softer in texture

You could also ADD sources of protein to foods that are already soft and increase the protein amount. For example:

• add grated cheese to eggs, mashed potatoes, or grits

• add protein powder, creamy peanut butter, or Greek yogurt to a mashed banana

• use higher protein ultra-filtered milk (like Fairlife) when making oatmeal and add protein powder and a nut butter to it

• add protein powder and/or nut butter to smoothies

• add soft/silken tofu to a cream-based soups or smoothie
