The Haywood County Beekeepers Association is offering a one-day introductory class on beekeeping. Topics will include the life cycle of the bee, what you need to do through the calendar year to maintain a hive, what equipment you will need and the cost involved.

This will be an opportunity to learn some basics about beekeeping and to meet fellow beginners and experienced beekeepers, to start a partnership on this adventure.

The class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7. The cost is $60 per person or $80 per couple. For that price, participants will receive a beginnerโ€™s manual (Kim Flottumโ€™s โ€œBackyard Beekeepingโ€), a barbecue luncheon, lots of catalogues, information and door prizes. There will be a free package of bees for one lucky winner to start their apiary (to be delivered at a later date).

Application forms are online at Haywood County Beekeepers webpage.
