On Oct. 20 and 28, the Town of Waynesville and Haywood Waterways Association will lead a moderate to strenuous 2.7-mile hike in the Waynesville Watershed with the option to tour the water treatment facility after the hike. This protected 8,000-acre watershed provides drinking water for many Haywood County residents. The event is free for Haywood Waterways’ members and a $5 donation for nonmembers; memberships start at $25.

The groups will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the town’s water treatment plant (341 Rocky Branch Road). The hike will conclude around 1:30 p.m. Bring lunch and water. Please leave pets at home.

Space is limited to 15 individuals for each hike. Members will have priority, and non-members will be placed on a wait list and contacted if there is space. Reservations and membership opportunities can be found on the Haywood Waterways Association website at haywoodwaterways.org.
