Join the Cataloochee chapter of Trout Unlimited at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Waynesville Recreation Center for a presentation on Bamboo Fly Rod Restoration by noted local craftsman Tommy Thomas.
Thomas is a well-known maker of custom fly rods as well as an instructor of fly fishing and fly tying. He will build a three-piece, 7-foot, 9-inch bamboo rod made of new and existing components. The rod will have emerald-green silks (nylon thread wraps) tipped in chocolate and hand-tied with a two-part high gloss epoxy finish. It will be fitted with a chrome stripping guide and include new mildrum snake guides and Mildrum hook keeper.
Thomas will donate this rod to the Cataloochee Chapter. The meeting is free and open to all interested in fishing and conservation of the chapter’s cold-water fishery.
