Friends of Panthertown will continue their summer fireside chat series from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at their office at 116 Central Street in Sylva. This free community event features the Watershed Association of the Tuckasegee River (WATR) and offers an opportunity for the public to join and learn how to protect the local watershed.
Held monthly throughout the summer, the fireside chat series highlights local conservation organizations and gives community members a chance to meet staff, learn about their work and discover ways to get involved. Participants are welcome to stop by anytime during the event to enjoy s’mores, snacks, cold beverages, outdoor games and conversation around the campfire.
During the July event, participants will collect and examine freshwater macroinvertebrates (small aquatic animals) from Scotts Creek and learn how these organisms are used to assess stream health and water quality. The activity will be followed by informal conversation around the campfire.
This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
