DEI’s intent is honorable

An MD recently expressed opinion regarding Trump wanting DEI to die.
All his remarks are accurate and no one would disagree with them if in fact employers followed them. The doctor doesn’t seem to recognize that there are many racists in this country.

Since President Trump, by the will of the majority of Americans, has come into office he has given a multitude of executive orders striking down failed policies of the Biden administration. None are as infamous as the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) programs.

Western Carolina University is only one of many public institutions being infected with the disease of Trumpism. Single-handedly Trump has mandated that diversity can no longer be promoted in hiring, curriculum, and even in student populations.
Haywood ‘Pride on Main’ Returns to Waynesville
From June 27 to 29, IDEA Haywood will present the second annual “Pride on Main” celebration in Waynesville under the banner, “y’all means all.”
Festivities begin Friday, June 27, at 9 p.m. with a kickoff event at the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill. On Saturday, Pride begins at 10 a.m. at the Haywood County Courthouse with opening remarks and performances by Grand Marshal Kat Williams, an Emmy-nominated singer.

In this day when actual facts can be hard to assess/confirm, here is an interesting one that is public record and confirmable. It is also of note that DEI has been politically misused and not well understood.
Camino club aims to support Hispanic student body
Editor’s note: While it is standard SMN and AP style to use last names when referring to people in articles, this story refers to students by their first names.
The Spanish word “camino” means road or path in English, and according to the student leaders of a new club at Franklin High School, that is exactly what they want their group to be.

For the past 20 years, we’ve heard from academics, some politicians and various commentators that America is a deeply racist society. In response, some colleges, the federal government and certain corporations require employees and students take instruction in DEI, or diversity, equity and inclusion.
