Pizza often has a bad reputation and is considered unhealthy, but if you think about it, it’s just bread with sauce, cheese, and toppings – kind of like an open-faced sandwich! As is the case with many things, if you eat pizza in large quantities, and if your toppings are higher in calories then your pizza night may not be the best choice.

Some ideas for enjoying pizza with your family:

• Get frozen pizza crust or pizza dough or make your own pizza dough and spread it out thinly on a baking sheet or pizza pan. You can also make individual pizzas using dough or if you prefer use, English muffins or naan bread instead of pizza dough.

• Spread your pasta sauce over the top of the dough or pizza crust.

• Go heavy on the vegetables like spinach, sliced tomatoes, broccoli, zucchini, artichoke hearts, peppers and onions since they are lower in calories.

• Use ground meat and cut up pepperoni to accent --not overwhelm.

Related Items

• Sprinkle your grated mozzarella and parmesan cheese - don’t layer it thickly.

• Bake it and cut it into thin slices.

• Enjoy your pizza with a large, tossed salad.
