To the Editor:
The gifted and recognized poet, Maya Angelou, once wrote, “I’ve learned people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
I believe many of us ordinary people are not feeling good about the following:
- The Oval Office slathered in gold.
- The East Wing plans that look like a royal palace.
- The historic Rose Garden paved over to look like a country club patio.
- A new helipad of granite.
- The Reflecting Pool debacle.
- Tariffs that cost all our households.
- A war with Iran that won’t go away.
- The pain of more expensive gasoline.
- The increased cost of groceries.
- A tax break for the wealthy.
- The increased costs associated with Affordable Care Act insurance plans.
- The ongoing alienating of our allies.
- The renaming of The Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.
- Reduced opportunity for children to have school lunches.
- The demeaning of women.
- Allowing ICE to kill and arrest American citizens.
- Promoting a UFC match on the White House grounds.
- Sponsoring a Grand Prix car race in Washington.
- Placing one’s name on The Kennedy Center.
- Attempts to make voting more difficult while weakening the value of Black persons’ votes.
- Spending millions of our tax dollars on refurbishing a “gift” plane.
- Redesigning the structure of Navy war ships and their launch systems.
We all grieved the recent death and loss of the talented Dolly Parton. Possibly the favorite of her multitude of melodies was “I Will Always Love You.” Again, I believe many of us will never forget how our president and his followers have made us feel. What we are seeking is the feeling that our leadership “Will Always Love Us.”
