To the Editor:

North Carolina’s regular voter registration deadline is Friday, October 9, at 5 p.m. Missed the deadline? Eligible Jackson County residents can register and vote at any early voting site in the county from October 15 through October 31. Bring proof of residence and an acceptable photo ID. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

Across the country, efforts to undermine trust in elections and weaken voting rights threaten our democracy. Every eligible voter deserves the freedom to participate without intimidation, interference, or barriers.

For months, millions have taken to the streets to defend democracy. Now, we must carry that energy to the ballot box. Voting gives us the power to hold leaders accountable and shape our future.

Indivisible Common Ground WNC invites everyone to our No Kings: Vote Early rally on Saturday, October 17, from 3 to 5 p.m., in front of the fountain on Main Street in downtown Sylva.

Our theme is “Voting Is Our Superpower!” Come as you are or dress as your favorite superhero. Join neighbors, families, and Western Carolina University students for music, speakers, and a fun celebration of our freedom to vote.

This nonpartisan, family-friendly event encourages participation by all eligible voters. It is not affiliated with, coordinated with, or supportive of any candidate or political party.

Democracy grows stronger when everyday people bring their neighbors together and take action. Make your voting plan, invite a friend, and help turn people power into voter power.

Voting is your superpower! Don’t let anyone take it away. Vote!
