To the Editor:
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. There has been a coordinated plan by people such as those in the Heritage Foundation to dumb down regular people in the USA since the Reagan era. Alvin Toffler even said in his book, “The Third Wave,” that industrial era schools were designed to teach students to be obedient, on time and do rote repetitive work.
There are wealthy people who feel they are entitled to live off of the labor of others. George Orwell, in his book “1984,” had this to say: “So long as they [common people] continued to work and breed, their other activities were without importance. To keep them in control was not difficult.”
Progressives have been playing defense and only responding to threats from the regressive right. We, the people, need to support better education and better leadership to break the control of the very wealthy. We progressives must work together and have a plan. Planning, execution and control are the three phases of a project. Planning is by far the most important part. We have been winging it, while the authoritarians have been methodically pursuing their plan of action. Consciousness raising is the first step to behavior change. Spread the word!
