Republican Jimmy Rogers has won the race for the state’s 118th House district after besting his Democratic opponent, Danny Davis, with 50.79% of the vote.
Rogers owns Haywood Tractor and has been a Haywood County School Board member since 2000. In the March primary, he defeated the Republican incumbent, Mark Pless, who was seeking his fourth term in Raleigh.
He ran on a campaign promising not to micromanage municipalities through local bills, as Pless frequently took heat for. Instead, he told The Smoky Mountain News that he would like to bring communities what they need.
