‘Sing and Swing: Our American Songbook’: Renowned composers, musicians to play WCU

A special production of “Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents” — a celebration of the Great American Songbook and iconic partnerships in jazz — with “Sing and Swing: Our American Songbook” will be performed Thursday, Feb. 29, at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee.

The Haywood County Arts Council’s annual “Haywood County Studio Tour” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24. 

Inside Fontana Dam: Rare tour inspires awe and reflection on a complicated history

It was one of the best opportunities I’d been given since I became a journalist and moved to Western North Carolina about seven years ago.

For the first time since 9/11, the Tennessee Valley Authority opened up Fontana Dam to a tour by members of the public and I was lucky enough to go along and write this story.
