Donna Mintz will discuss her new book, “Stars at Noon,” with Brent Martin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at City Lights Bookstore in Sylva.

Blending essay, memoir and natural history with biography, “Stars at Noon” traces the author’s pilgrimage through a book — and a love letter to its author, James Agee, whose untimely death becomes the thread connecting it all. The work meditates on art, beauty, time and silence, exploring what is found and lost in both.

Martin co-owns Alarka Expeditions in Franklin and is the former executive director of the Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy. He has authored several books, including “George Masa’s Wild Vision” and “A Hiker’s Guide to the Bartram National Recreation Trail in Georgia and North Carolina.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 828.586.9499 or visit citylightsnc.com.
