Arielle Hebert will share her debut poetry collection, “Bottom Feeders,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at City Lights Bookstore in Sylva.
Set in late 2000s Florida during the opioid epidemic, “Bottom Feeders” is a gritty queer coming-of-age collection where overdoses, red tide blooms, and hurricanes mingle with teenage desires, beach parties, and prom.
Hebert is a North Carolina-based queer poet with roots in Florida and Louisiana. She holds an MFA in poetry from North Carolina State University and a BA in creative writing from Florida State University. Her work has appeared in Southern Humanities Review, Poetry Daily, Best New Poets and other publications. She is director of operations and marketing at Blair, a nonprofit independent publisher supporting emerging and diverse Southern writers.
