‘Spring Fling’ returns to Waynesville
The Waynesville Recreation Center announced the return of its annual free “Spring Fling” community event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. This family-friendly celebration will take place on the Recreation Center green space.
This rain-or-shine event is completely free and open to families, children and community members of all ages.
A RAD mother-daughter journey
In the quiet moments of a morning at Panacea Coffee House, a chance conversation with Waynesville Police Chief David Adams sparked an unexpected journey for my daughter and me. He mentioned the upcoming Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) program at the Waynesville Recreation Center, hosted by REACH of Haywood County, our local rape and domestic violence crisis center, and the Waynesville Police Department.
Waynesville hosts open house for master plan
Waynesville is inviting residents to attend a second open house for its parks and recreation Master Plan on from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Waynesville Recreation Center.
Following an initial round of public input earlier this year, this second open house will give community members an opportunity to review draft recommendations shaped by that feedback and help refine priorities that will guide improvements and investment in Waynesville’s parks and recreation system over the next 10 years.
Introduction to fly fishing classes
The Waynesville Parks & Recreation Department will host instructors from the Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited conducting an Introduction to Fly Fishing Class, on three evenings in March. Intended for first-time fly fishermen and fisherwomen wanting to learn the basics, the class will also appeal to anglers looking for some expert tips.
Fly-tying class in Haywood
The Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department will host expert fly-tying instructors from the Cataloochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited and conduct an “Introduction to Fly Tying” class on three evenings in February. Intended for first-time fly tyers wanting to learn the basics, the class will also appeal to crafters seeking a challenge, as well as to anglers looking to get some expert tips.
Waynesville looking for lifeguards
The Town of Waynesville Parks and Recreation is looking for 15 new lifeguards to train and certify at no cost.
This presents a great opportunity to develop valuable skills and enjoy a meaningful summer or year-round job, possibly at the Waynesville Recreation Center.
Youth hiring event planned
The Town of Waynesville, in collaboration with NCWorks Career Center, will host a youth hiring event from 2-5 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Waynesville Recreation Center.
