WNC does not need martial law
To the Editor:
Here in Western North Carolina, we know the value of independence, personal responsibility and limited government. That’s why I’m deeply concerned about a quiet move coming out of Washington that doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves and that could affect every one of us.
The new sheriff wants DEI to DIE
To the Editor:
Since President Trump, by the will of the majority of American voters, has come into office he has given a multitude of executive orders striking down failed policies of the Biden administration. None are as infamous as the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs.
We deserve better leadership than this
To the Editor:
This Easter season — a time for moral reflection and renewal — I feel compelled to speak to the direction of our national leadership. We face a moment where economic manipulation and constitutional neglect are becoming normalized, with grave consequences for all Americans.
Trump has never really had to work
To the Editor:
Migrant/immigrant workers know what real work is, tending crops under a blazing sun that provide the food that we eat, doing jobs that no one else wants to do.
Trump doesn’t care about our suffering
To the Editor:

Gas station would be a big mistake
To the Editor:
I used to go to the old Jack the Dipper building between Cullowhee and Sylva. It was a produce stand at the time; the fellow running it sold great watermelons. If things were too hectic, I just kept going rather than skid to a screeching halt.
What happened to honesty, integrity?
To the Editor:
Whatever happened to honesty and integrity in the United States of America? Lying, cheating and immorality seem to be the acceptable norm these days.
We have a serving President who is a convicted felon from the hush money trail with a porn star.
Term limits promote good government
To the Editor:
The United States' founding fathers envisioned a government where elected officials would serve the nation selflessly, free from the constraints of political parties.
Elected officials need to speak up
To the Editor:
This morning I read an article in the New York Times titled “Musk Targeted FEMA. Storm-Battered Communities Are Paying a Price.” The article describes how the federal government has stopped making FEMA payments to states and non-profits and has given DOGE full system access to FEMA’s financial management system.
Our rights are on endangered
To the Editor:
Myself, like many other people these days, are trying to keep up with the constant bombardment of the current administration’s policy changes. My brain is spinning and my mind is weary.
