Time to ‘Man up for women’

To the Editor:
Men, especially young men, need to speak out and vote for a woman’s right to a safe, legal abortion.
Quick story: When I was in graduate school in New York City, a 19-year-old buddy and his girlfriend came for a visit — and a secret abortion. Abortions were illegal in their home state in 1967, as well as in New York, but a stealthy network of doctors and health professionals in NYC made it an underground mecca for a safe procedure. Still, they were both terrified about the possible medical consequences and risk of getting caught.
My buddy was in the Army, on his way to Vietnam before being drafted. He told me he wasn’t ready to be drafted into the responsibilities of fatherhood. So he took action and helped his girlfriend commit a crime.
Today, a man should be as worried as a woman about an unwanted pregnancy. It’s time to “Man Up for Women.” Tell your buddies to vote for candidates who will protect a woman’s access to a legal abortion.

Bob needs to worry about about Raleigh/Durham and keep his views to his demographic area. Don't need no liberalism in the mountains. Smokey MOUNTAIN news is not the Smoggy Raleigh News. ABORTION by ANY reasoning is Murder according to God's Laws. Period.

Men who are concerned about women being saddled with unwanted pregnancies need to step up to the plate and get vasectomies. I understand some states are offering them for free now.
Men advocating for a woman’s right to abort the fellow’s baby that he conceived and she doesn’t want is the cowards way. Let’s stop putting the onus of responsibility for pregnancy on women. A woman does not get pregnant unless a man puts his sperm in her. (The birds and the bees thing, remember?)

This writer is obviously a New York City transplant and clearly brings his twisted ideology with him to our State. These interlopers are ruining everything in North Carolina.

Real men who support and take care of their families and responsibilities had better vote for a better economy. Has the letter writer been to the grocery store lately? Better worry about what affects you!
