• Jim Haughey will share his debut novel, “The Broken Season,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Set on the eve of the Civil War in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the novel follows Irish immigrant laborers carving a tunnel through granite while facing death from accidents, disease, violence, and drink. When a laborer is condemned for murder, a priest arrives to hear his final confession but uncovers a secret more dangerous than the crime itself.
• Mark Leidner will share his new poetry collection, “Elegy for Pangea,” with Timothy Willis Sanders, Megan Boyle, Blake Butler, and Ellie Goins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. The collection explores faith, grief, money, myth, parenting, and poetry through poems that are mystical, satirical, personal, and often disconcerting.
