'You Are Here': U.S. poet laureate unveils Poetry in the Parks project

Anyone who has ever found themselves looking at a public map — from a trailhead to a mall directory — has seen that little arrow or star or red dot accompanied by the words “you are here.”  

Haywood Arts ‘Pets’ exhibit

The Haywood County Arts Council (HCAC) will unveil its latest exhibit, “Pets,” with an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the Haywood Handmade Gallery at the HCAC in Waynesville.

Cherokee exhibit focuses on mask makers, legacy

Showcased at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center in Cherokee, a recent exhibition, “Behind the Mask: Cherokee Mask Makers and their Legacy,” aimed to reinforce the significance of Cherokee masks — their history and use, as well as their meaning and significance. 

WCU collaborates with Cherokee on exhibit planning project

A campuswide and community driven project will soon be underway to recenter Cherokee history and culture on Western Carolina University’s campus.

Time for Renewal

Asheville Gallery of Art’s February show, “Time for Renewal” will feature works by three new gallery members:  Kathy Goodson, Margie Kluska, and Johnnie Stanfield.  The show will run Feb. 1-28 during gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  An event to meet the artists will be held at the gallery on First Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 82 Patton Avenue.

Nikwasi story told in traveling Smithsonian exhibit

The history of the Nikwasi Mound in Franklin will soon be part of a Smithsonian Museum traveling exhibit that will tour around the U.S.
