Sylva accepts state grant for trail expansion at Pinnacle Park
A popular hiking destination in Jackson County will soon see expanded access and new trail construction, thanks state funding awarded to the Town of Sylva.
At its July 10 meeting, the Sylva Board of Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing town staff to accept a $92,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources’ Recreational Trails Program.
Haywood Waterways hosts fishing tournament
The nonprofit Haywood Waterways Association will host its second annual fishing tournament on the West Fork of the Pigeon River.
There are categories for both adults and youth 12 and under. Adults can participate in teams of one to four individuals. Registration fee is $200 per team. Fly and conventional rods are both OK.

TU-Cataloochee’s next trout stocking event is coming up Monday, May 6, along the delayed harvest section of the West Fork of the Pigeon River.
