What country is this?

To the Editor:

President Trump ordered armed combat troops into Portland, Oregon, because he said the city is under attack and burning to the ground. This is not true. The city of Portland is just fine according to its own police chief and the mayor. An area just one city block long at the federal building has been the site of small demonstrations. The city is not burning to the ground. 

‘A flip of the switch’: Library switches sparks confusion and concern

Seeking guidance, Jackson County Public Library board members met with County Manager Kevin King last week hoping to learn more about what, exactly, the lame-duck advisory board should do to prepare for operating an independent library over the next nine months.

To the Editor:

Who’s writing the script on the United States’ approach towards Ukraine and Russia? Trump or Putin?

• February 18 — Trump falsely claims Ukraine started the war with Russia. That’s a win for Putin.
