Elected officials need to speak up

To the Editor:

This morning I read an article in the New York Times titled “Musk Targeted FEMA. Storm-Battered Communities Are Paying a Price.” The article describes how the federal government has stopped making FEMA payments to states and non-profits and has given DOGE full system access to FEMA’s financial management system.

Our rights are on endangered

To the Editor:

Myself, like many other people these days, are trying to keep up with the constant bombardment of the current administration’s policy changes. My brain is spinning and my mind is weary.

Lying about Social Security isn’t the answer

As an attorney, I have direct experience and the unique point of view that comes from working with the Social Security Administration daily and remain in awe at its ability to serve millions of Americans with a wide array of needs.

Trump’s cronies don’t live in our universe

To the Editor:

Every so often, some politician will say something so arrogant and tone-deaf as to be compared to Marie Antoinette, the doomed queen who supposedly said of France’s starving peasants, “Then let them eat cake.”

It’s time to stand against hate

To the Editor:

I am a retired military officer (veteran); senior citizen; middle class; have grandchildren that are part of the LBGQ+ community; live in a rural area; have a grandchild still in school; and, I am a female.

Trump agenda hurts the working man

To the Editor:

Is it really necessary to make getting Social Security benefits harder, if not impossible, for elderly and disabled beneficiaries? The Trump administration wants to force people to file Social Security claims in person — you won’t be able to do business on-line or on the phone any more.

Thank God we elected Trump

To the Editor:

Thank God, most Americans were intelligent enough to see through the sleazy leftist persecution of President Trump and to realize that life was so much better under Trump's leadership.

Pless works against taxpayers

To the Editor:

State Rep. Mark Pless, R-Haywood, is facilitating property de-annexation with a group of current Town of Maggie Valley property owners. They are testing the water to see if they can put more dollars in their pockets, take tax dollars away from the Town and allow unfettered development to their parcels.

Musk-DOGE will lead to more fraud

To the Editor:

Many of the letter writers the week of February 28 have a grasp of what is happening in the U.S. However, a couple do not seem to understand the reality behind the MAGA claims.

Ripped off by leftist operatives

To the Editor:

I read the newspaper one morning when visiting the area last weekend and was legitimately shocked when I got to the Letters to the Editor section. The U.S. government has been exposed to be a multi-trillion-dollar corrupt money laundering organization, and I was surprised how many of your readers are perfectly OK with it.
