Project 2025’s vision is not my America
To the Editor:
Most of us now understand that Project 2025, brainstorm of the ideologues at the Heritage Foundation and barely mentioned a year or so ago, is very real and that — right now — our federal government is being radically restructured in accordance with that 900-plus page manifesto as it seeks to consolidate power in the executive branch; to consolidate power to the will or whim of the president.
All Americans must protect Constitution

A significant event in history is being replayed in our time. The Magna Carta was a landmark English document establishing that the power of the English monarchy was not absolute.
Oval Office meeting provides clarity

I realize by the time this is printed that the Oval Office meeting with President Zelensky (Friday, Feb 28) will be old news. But it should never become old news. We saw what we saw, and it has given us clarity about who our leaders are.

I voted for Donald Trump. I voted for J.D. Vance. I am deeply grateful for them, the wise decisions they are making and the excellent staff they have assembled. Thank God that we dodged a bullet and their outrageous, ridiculous opponents were not elected!

A lesson in how lies lead to dangerous outcomes
Facts, once unassailable, have become, well, difficult to quantify. People make up or repeat lies, especially on social media platforms and other online spaces, and people believe them, think what they read or hear is true, is a fact. As it turns out, those lies can be dangerous. We’ve all witnessed it at the national level, but it’s also happening right here in Western North Carolina.
Do these politicians have no shame?

The small city of Springfield, Ohio, has been turned into a target of anti-immigrant hate by Donald Trump and JD Vance, echoed by many of their followers. They spread the vicious lie that Haitian immigrants — who are legally documented and were invited by the town leadership to settle there — are eating people’s pets.
