Foster care donation drive

Foster care donation drive

Each year, children in foster care in Haywood County move between homes carrying little more than what they can fit in a bag, often leaving behind the everyday items that provide comfort, stability, a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. The Haywood County Republican Party wants to ease that transition by collecting essential supplies and small personal items to ensure those children have what they need as they navigate an already uncertain chapter in their lives.

If you’re in a position to help, drop off new items at the HCGOP office, 297 North Haywood St. in Waynesville, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Specifically, needs include suitcases, duffel bags, backpacks, hygiene products, paper towels and toilet paper, underwear (kids and teens), shoes and household cleaning products.

Donations to relevant organizations will be made sometime in July, so there’s plenty of time to make a small difference in the life of a vulnerable child. At our inception 20 years ago, we chose to be different. Unlike other news organizations, we made the decision to provide in-depth, regional reporting free to anyone who wanted access to it. We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.

The Smoky Mountain News is a wholly private corporation. Reader contributions support the journalistic mission of SMN to remain independent. Your support of SMN does not constitute a charitable donation. If you have a question about contributing to SMN, please contact us.
