As first reported in The Smoky Mountain News, Haywood County Schools has proposed a multi-million dollar consolidation of several auxiliary services on a 28-acre parcel off Ratcliff Cove Road. For that to happen, the parcel must first be rezoned.

On April 26, Waynesville’s Planning Board gave the rezoning a favorable recommendation — with stipulations — but ultimately, it’s up to the Waynesville Town Council to give the final OK. As part of that process, Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 6 p.m. or as closely thereafter as possible in the Town Hall Board Room located at 9 South Main St., in Waynesville. Public comment will be accepted during the public hearing.
