Dillsboro’s Riverwood Shops fetes 50 years
Riverwood Shops, a group of artisans’ studios overlooking the town of Dillsboro, will commemorate their 50th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
Owned by the same family since 1957, this cluster of shops and galleries has provided a unique community for demonstrating craftspeople, including metal smiths, glassworkers, potters, pewter smiths, weavers and others. Following that tradition, the studios at Riverwood will hold interactive, hands-on demonstrations for visitors throughout their 50th anniversary celebration — a wide range of arts including felted-hat making, weaving, Raku pottery firing, jewelry making, and more. The artists-in-residence at Riverwood include potters Brant and Karen Barnes, Tiffany-style glass artist Bob Pace, weaver Kathie Roig and jeweler and metalworker Maggie Joynt.
