Shady Ladies ‘Pushing Tradition’ with Gallery 86 show
The Haywood County Arts Council’s Gallery 86 will host an exhibition of art quilt pieces by the Shady Ladies quilting group called, “Pushing Tradition” Aug. 2-25.
The artist’s reception will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 3 in conjunction with Waynesville’s Art After Dark. The gallery will also participate in the following day’s Saturday Stroll from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each year, members of the Shady Ladies quilting group of Haywood County create original wall hangings. This year, each Shady Lady created an original adaptation of one of three traditional quilt block patterns: Ohio Star, Log Cabin or Double Wedding Ring.
“We thought it would be fun to take three very traditional quilt blocks and see if we could interpret them in very non-traditional ways,” said Jane Cole, a Chady Lady quilter.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
