Pottery workshops to spur children’s creativity
Children ages 8 and older can get muddy and learn about pottery in two workshops from 9 a.m. to noon July 14 and July 21 at Macon County Art Association’s Uptown Gallery in Franklin.
The focus of the first workshop on July 14 is to make critters. Ultimately, the critters can become ice cream bowls, rattles, paperweights or pencil holders. The critters will be fired in instructor Hank Shuler’s kiln and then be available for the children to paint during the second workshop.
All materials and tools will be provided for the students in these workshops. It is recommended that each child bring an apron or smock (dad’s old shirt) to help them stay a little cleaner, along with a towel.
Students will learn about slab, coil and other construction methods to build a variety of pieces. Pre-registration to attend the workshops is required.
