Haywood Extension composting class
Bonnie Refinski-Knight, an N.C. State Extension Master Gardner volunteer, will host a presentation on composting. The class will include an example of a compost bin.
Composting is the process by which microbes convert organic materials, leaves, kitchen scraps and garden waste into a valuable product which, when used on gardens, lawns and houseplants, results in healthier plant growth. Composting also reduces waste, improves soil structure, adds nutrients to the soil and suppresses plant diseases, weeds and pests.
The class will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley on Soco Road. The class is free, but pre-registration is required as attendance is limited. Register at haywood.ces.ncsu.edu/upcoming-home-gardening-classes.
