Woman arrested after allegedly abducting her children in Haywood

A former Haywood Country resident who now lives in Virginia was arrested after she allegedly kidnapped three of her children on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 6.

According to an AMBER Alert, Ashley Lehmann was supposed to drop the children off at the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office at noon after losing a custody case but failed to do so, which eventually led to the AMBER Alert.

A press release issued by the Haywood County Sheriff's Office almost immediately following the AMBER Alert says the children were located safe and without injury.

“This is a prime example of good investigative work in conjunction with the AMBER Alert system,” the release reads. “We appreciate the assistance of all agencies involved. Ashley Bradley Lehman was taken into custody on charges related to the issued AMBER Alert.”

The investigation is ongoing.
