Haywood Community College (HCC) and Lees-McRae College (LMC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Guaranteed Admission Program for all HCC students who meet certain academic requirements to transfer and complete a Bachelor’s degree at LMC. In addition, HCC students who qualify will receive New Horizon Transfer scholarships in amounts up to 60% off annual tuition.

In addition, Haywood students who enter into a Lees-McRae degree completion program online will receive a tuition discount of $30 per credit hour. These academic merit-based awards are guaranteed for the duration of the student’s stay provided the student remains in good academic standing and carries a full-time load. This agreement will begin with Spring Semester 2021.

“Lees-McRae is very excited to partner with Haywood Community College,” said Kevin Phillips, vice president for enrollment management at Lees-McRae. “We want to increase the awareness of our outstanding academic programs to more students, and we look forward to showcasing the Lees-McRae experience to Haywood’s students. There are simply a lot of great possibilities that both schools can capitalize on, and the students are the ones who really benefit from this partnership.

“HCC is excited to work with Lees-McRae to expand options for our students to pursue even higher educational goals. Creating seamless pathways and partnerships helps our students navigate their transfer options and opens new doors for their future success,” said HCC President Dr. Shelley White.

Lees-McRae College is located in Banner Elk, NC and offers 26 majors of study and 23 athletic teams. Program offerings include in-person and online options. The student to faculty ratio is 13 to 1. For more information about LMC, visit www.lmc.edu.

“We are delighted to be able to offer HCC graduates direct entry into Lees-McRae College,” said HCC Vice President of Instruction, Wendy Hines. “This agreement gives our students the ability to have a seamless transfer into their desired major after completing HCC.”

Spring registration is underway now at HCC. For more information about registration, visit haywood.edu or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
