Early voting results released
Just after the polls close but before Election Day results are compiled, candidate totals from North Carolina’s early voting period are released. While they’re not final totals, they are an accurate summary of how hundreds of Haywood County voters cast their ballots in the weeks prior to today.
Results released around 7:30 p.m. this evening showed Gary Caldwell with a commanding lead in early voting for the Waynesville mayoral race, with 357 votes to incumbent Mayor Gavin Brown’s 272.
Chuck Dickson led all aldermanic candidates with 488 votes to Jon Feichter’s 450. Julia Boyd Freeman led the second tier with 360 votes, trailed closely by Anthony Sutton’s 331 votes. LeRoy Roberson followed them with 329, and Joey Reece brought up the rear with 306.
In Maggie Valley’s mayoral race, Janet Banks held a narrow lead in early voting over Mike Eveland, 67 to 61. Tammy Wight led the alderman candidates with 79 votes, trailed by her husband Phillip with 69, and Allen Alsbrooks close behind with 65.
In Sylva, incumbent Alderman David Nestler set the pace with 68 votes, Greg McPherson trailed with 53 and Benjamin Guiney was in third with 39.
In Franklin, Mayor Bob Scott led challenger Barbara McRae 136 to 98.
Joe Collins led the Franklin aldermanic field with 146 votes, Jack Horton following with 143 and Mike Lewis with 108. Brandon McMahan is a close fourth with 107.
