Delayed Harvest waters to close for trout fishing

Delayed Harvest waters to close for trout fishing

Delayed Harvest Trout Waters regulations will go into effect in 20 Western North Carolina counties on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Under the regulations, no trout can be harvested or possessed in these waters between Oct. 1 and a half hour after sunset on June 5, 2020. Anglers may not possess any natural bait and may use only artificial lures with one single hook. Lures may not contain or be treated with any substance that attracts fish by the sense of smell.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission stocks these waters from fall through spring with high densities of trout to increase anglers’ chances of catching fish. Delayed Harvest Trout Waters are posted with diamond-shaped, black-and-white signs. For a list of Delayed Harvest waters, visit www.ncwildlife.org/learning/species/fish/trout/troutfishing.aspx.
