Canton student part of record-setting livestock sale
Canton resident Caleb Henson was part of a class of N.C. State Fair junior livestock show winners that drew a record $190,000 in revenues at the Junior Livestock Sale of Champions Oct. 13 in Raleigh.
The N.C. Farm Bureau and Iron Horse Auction purchased his reserve champion meat goat for $7,000, and Powers Great American Midways bought his grand champion Got to Be N.C. meat goat for $15,500.
The youth receive 60 percent of the purchase amount, with the remaining 40 percent supporting youth scholarships and youth livestock educational programs in North Carolina. Since the scholarship program’s inception in 2015, nearly $225,000 has been awarded to students continuing their education.
