Boating access improvements coming to the Chattooga
Restoration and recreation work has begun on the Chattooga River in the Pisgah-Nantahala National Forest thanks to funding from the National Forest Foundation and REI granted in 2017.
The project includes constructing three kayak launch sites, building trails to access those launch sites, installing trailhead information kiosks and making trailhead parking improvements.
The Chattooga runs south for 57 miles from the mountains into the Tallulah River and ultimately Tugalo Lake. The river was designated as a Wild and Scenic River in 1974 and contains one of the best stretches of technical whitewater in the country.
