Canton hires new police chief

The town of Canton has hired Robert “Shawn” Gaddis as its new chief of police effective March 31.

Gaddis, who most recently held the rank of lieutenant within the department, will be taking over for retiring chief Bryan Whitner.

Gaddis is a lifelong resident of Haywood County and possesses 25 years of law enforcement experience — 18 of those years were spent serving Canton. Before that he served as a Haywood County Sheriff’s deputy.
