Three tons of trash removed in litter pickup
A trash cleanup on upper Scotts Creek in Sylva Saturday, Jan. 27, yielded more than 3.5 tons of trash hauled to the landfill.
This section of Scotts Creek has acted as a de facto dumping station for some people, with all manner of small and large trash items scattered along the slope. A group of 33 volunteers, including three workers from the town of Sylva, participated in the pickup. The town contributed the use of heavy equipment to help remove some large appliances from the edge of the creek.
The cleanup was organized by the Tuckaseigee River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Members of the Western Carolina University Fly Fishing Club helped as well.
